nEVEn: Right-Click Tools

1. The In-Viewport Workflow: Instant Triage at the Cursor

Architectural modeling moves quickly. While nEVEn's full-model audit dashboard provides executive-level diagnostics across the entire project, architects often need surgical, immediate tools while actively modeling at the cursor level.

When you import an individual armchair from the 3D Warehouse, trace an interior room boundary, or build a custom parametric facade, you should not have to stop your design flow, run a full model audit, or navigate complex dialogs.

nEVEn embeds its core geometric and topological engines directly into SketchUp's native Right-Click Context Menu. Selecting any group, component, or raw face in the viewport unlocks two specialized one-click actions under the nEVEn submenu:

  1. Clean Geometry - The Container & Solid Manifold Doctor.
  2. Fix Reversed Faces - The Deterministic Outer-Hull Normal Orientation Engine.

2. Feature 1: Clean Geometry (The Container & Solid Manifold Doctor)

How to Access:

Right-click any unlocked Group or Component in your active viewport and select nEVEn > Clean Geometry.

[ Right-Click Group/Component ] โž” nEVEn โž” Clean Geometry
                                           โ”œโ”€โ”€ Dissolves Coplanar Seams
                                           โ”œโ”€โ”€ Erases Orphan Loose Edges
                                           โ”œโ”€โ”€ Heals Internal Partition Walls
                                           โ””โ”€โ”€ Audits Manifold Solid Integrity

What It Cleans:

  • Coplanar Seamlines: Automatically dissolves redundant divider edges on continuous flat planes sharing identical materials and UV mappings, drastically reducing edge draw overhead for SketchUp's graphics pipeline.
  • Orphan & Stray Edges: Erases zero-length lines, detached tails, and floating wireframe fragments that bloat the container.
  • Internal Partition Walls: Identifies and heals unnecessary internal intersecting faces that prevent hollow volumes from forming solid shapes.

Manifold Solid Verification & Defect Reporting:

For 3D printing and SketchUp Solid Tools (Union, Subtract, Trim, Intersect), a container must be an absolute Manifold Solid (recognized by SketchUp as a 100% airtight Solid Group or Solid Component). Following the cleanup pass, nEVEn performs a comprehensive topological audit and displays the Clean Complete report:

  • Total coplanar edges erased.
  • Total loose edges eliminated.
  • Total internal partition walls healed.
  • T-Junction Edges: Edges shared by 3 or more faces (internal dividers).
  • Open Edges: Boundary seams shared by only 1 face (surface holes or missing caps).
  • Solid Manifold Confirmation: Confirms whether the object qualifies as a true SketchUp Solid.

The Auto-Dive Inspection Engine:

If a single container fails solid verification due to internal T-junctions or perimeter holes, nEVEn does not leave you guessing where the mesh is broken:

  • nEVEn automatically enters the group or component, dives into its internal geometry, and selects the exact defective edges or sub-groups.
  • The offending seams are instantly highlighted in your viewport, allowing you to bridge holes or delete internal faces in seconds.

Safety & Non-Destructive Operation:

  • Locked Asset Shield: All locked containers (structural columns, linked DWGs, survey data) are strictly protected and cannot be modified.
  • 100% Undoable: Every modification is encapsulated in a single SketchUp transaction. Pressing Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (macOS) reverts the container instantly.

3. Feature 2: Fix Reversed Faces

The Problem:

In SketchUp, surfaces often end up reversed, displaying as blue or purple back-faces instead of white front-faces. When you send your model to renderers or export for 3D printing, reversed faces cause serious issues:

  • Render Glitches: Black or dark splotches in real-time and external rendering engines.
  • Reflection Errors: Glass, mirrors, and metallic materials reflecting backwards.
  • Light Leaks: Light passing through inverted geometry.
  • 3D Printing Errors: Slicing software failing to recognize solid volume boundaries.

SketchUp's native "Orient Faces" frequently guesses wrong, accidentally flipping roofs downward or turning rooms inside out.

How to Use:

  1. Select any group, component, or raw faces in your active viewport.
  2. Right-click and select nEVEn > Fix Reversed Faces.

What It Does:

  • Instant 1-Click Fix: Automatically turns reversed (blue/purple) faces so the correct white front face points outward.
  • Preserves Your Textures: Unlike native SketchUp, which can lose textures when flipping, nEVEn keeps your painted materials and UV mapping intact on the visible front side.
  • Smart & Safe: Accurately fixes reversed walls and roofs without disturbing correct faces, and fully supports Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z undo.

4. When to Use Right-Click Tools

Modeling Scenario Recommended Action Result
Imported 3D Warehouse Furniture Clean Geometry Erases coplanar seams and loose lines, speeding up viewport orbit.
Preparing Geometry for Solid Tools Clean Geometry Checks for solid manifold integrity and highlights defective edges.
Blue/Purple Walls on Imported CAD/Revit Fix Reversed Faces Flips all walls to white exterior faces with 1 click.
Pre-Render Health Check Fix Reversed Faces Prevents black rendering patches, lighting leaks, and material errors in external render engines.

Can I undo a Clean Geometry or Fix Reversed Faces operation? โ€บ

Yes. Both operations are wrapped in native SketchUp undo operations. Pressing Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (macOS) will completely and immediately restore your original geometry and materials.

How do I fix blue or reversed faces in SketchUp automatically? โ€บ

Select the object or faces, right-click, and choose nEVEn > Fix Reversed Faces. nEVEn automatically flips all blue back-faces to white while keeping your materials intact.

How can I make a component into a Solid Manifold in SketchUp? โ€บ

Right-click the component and select nEVEn > Clean Geometry. nEVEn dissolves coplanar seams, erases loose lines, and heals internal partition walls. If non-manifold errors (T-junctions or holes) remain, nEVEn automatically enters the container and selects the exact problem edges so you can close them immediately.

Will nEVEn Clean Geometry delete my locked CAD site drawings? โ€บ

No. nEVEn strictly respects SketchUp's locked container status. Any group or component that is locked (such as site boundaries, survey plans, or structural grids) is completely shielded from geometry cleanup and face orientation.

Why do my textures disappear when I reverse faces in SketchUp? โ€บ

Native SketchUp moves materials to the backside when flipping a face, leaving the front unpainted. nEVEnโ€™s Fix Reversed Faces keeps textures on the visible front side so your materials never disappear.

How is nEVEn's Fix Reversed Faces different from SketchUp's native tools? โ€บ

In native SketchUp, you cannot reverse faces from outside a group or component - you must double-click inside and manually flip faces one by one, which often moves your painted textures to the backside. With nEVEn, you simply right-click the group directly from the outside: it automatically detects and turns all reversed faces outward in 1 click, while keeping your textures and materials intact.
